My First Car
  • ElSelcho

Mine was a 1984 Austin Mini and once I upgraded with a PA System that doubled the value of the car (was a cheap PA) it was mine!

My first car was a 1988 Toyota Corolla. I destroyed it within a year, slipping on black ice at 70mph and flipping over the front bumper into a snowbank. Good times.

      Ahh!!! Scary stuff!

But it sounds like we both retired our first cars via car accident at 70 mph. No one else be part of this club, please!

  • Plokhi

    1998 Mazda 323F.

Was so happy with it i bought another one after, 2.5 V6 that time, some mods to bump it to 200hp. exterior completely stock. I still miss that car. Both of them

  • Fulano

I had a 1992 AMC Eagle. The thing rocked as it could go more places than my friends with trucks or broncos. It didn't like to go past 55 mph but that didn't matter much on our dirt roads where I grew up. It got around 100 miles per gallon! Of oil that is.

I'd say just trying to keep it running made it feel like it was mine…

The Ford Trapezoid is a reliable first car.

    • Oraticus

That is if you can't swing a little extra for a Chevy Rhombus or a Honda Parallelogram. Someday, though, I'm gonna get my hands on a Aston Martin Enneagon… 9 sides and 9 angles of road-burning fury.

1986 Ford Areostar Minivan. Woo! It was my parents car and the one we basically grew up with. It was a terrible car, but built like a tank. I customized the interior like crazy – tons of labels from the CD's I bought, fortune cookie fortunes, various pins and stickers and oddball toys. I worked at an electronics warehouse at the time, so I even removed the map light and replaced it with a computer fan… Yeah, kind of dorky. But, being the first of my friends to drive, I drove everyone else around. With a box of legos for them to play with. Good times. :)

I'm just imaging what would happen if you ever got into an accident with the LEGOS in the van. I imagine they'd turn into bullets.

      • Marc

Nah, that van was so beefy, it wouldn't move in an accident! :)

  • Florian

100 hp… my, you lucky bastard! I still don't have an own car, closest I got was my roommate's car. He started with a 45 PS 12 year old Volkswagen Polo. Luckily their engines are practically indestrutible, He still had it when it hit the 300'000km mark 8 years later.

    • Florian

      @45PS: 45 hp I meant.

      • Dan

Had me beat. My first car was the 1990 Geo Metro. 49hp of road tearing power. Amazingly peppy car, because it weighed practically nothing.

        • http://invisiblebread.com Justin Boyd

I always kinda wanted a Metro. Seemed like a fun little go cart of a car.

  • Zera3

1989 Toyota Corolla. I tinted the windows, painted the stock rims black, installed a whole aftermarket audio system plus some subwoofers in the back. Bought it off Craigslist for $1500. On my way to get the oil leak fixed and the oil changed, the motor died. I sold the car on Craigslist for $500. I miss you Lola the Corolla.

    • http://twitter.com/VanessaL3000 @VanessaL3000

That may be one of the best names for a car, ever.

  • http://twitter.com/VanessaL3000 @VanessaL3000

2001 Silver Chevy Cavalier I named "Fluffy"

As soon as I bought it my boyfriend at the time slapped one of those damn "Never Forget" stickers on it and it fused to the molecular structure of the car.

After that the most "customization" I did was not replacing the brake pads (because I was young and stupid) and so every time I applied the breaks it sounded like a Pod racer.

The 240sx was an awesome car!!
By the time I could afford a car it was no longer made.

2008 Honda Fit. Guess I got lucky to get a new car, but it was basically the cheapest new car available, so there's that. I like it a lot, gets good mileage and it's a stickshift, which is the best. :)

    • zibodiz

And since it's a Fit, when you get tired of it, you can sell it for about 100% of what you paid for it! I've been wanting to buy one but gave up because a used was almost as expensive as a new one.

'81 Ford F-150 pickup – 2-wheel drive longbed with no shocks, just springs. 3 speed manual tranny. Cost me $285 when I was 15; I had to wait 6 months before I could drive it on the road. Longest 6 months of my life! My customizations? I put a ladder rack on it and hauled a ton of lawn mowing equipment lol. Oh, and a handsfree system that went with my old Motorola flip phone (the model that came right after the brick phone). I was a pretty lucky kid. I kept that truck until I had mowed enough lawns to buy a bigger, better truck a couple years later.

A 1991 Peugeot 205 (four doors, girly red, 44 hp) which I got for about $300 from my sister in law. It was mine after a rear-end collision, because the damage was only quickly repaired by unbending the parts with a hammer making it kinda unique. It was eventually followed by a 1993 Volvo 440, which I really loved. With its 110 hp it reached 130 mph on the Autobahn. This was truly my own car from the very first day. I refitted it with central-lock (incl. remote) and fog lights. I kept it for 8 years — then it died of age. No accidents!

  • Eichhorn

Hey, you can draw cars now, excellent.
My dream car was Nissan Skyline R34, but the wheel was on the wrong side for the country I live in, so I had to forget about it. Also I won't be having any car with lots of horsepower because of the huge tax, which is a total bummer.
I still kinda want it though.

  • Octothorpe

    Ahahahah, love the secret panel.

  • Sven

My first car was a Mazda MX-5 Miata. I bought it last month. I'm 32, I just always lived in places where it was more convenient to use public transit before this. 😛

  • Ayrin

first car was a 2000 dodge grand caravan, looked just like the van in the comic, rearranged the seats, put a bunch of tools in it and never got to drive it to work, sold it for 400 bucks and turned around and used the cash to buy a 69 chevy bel air and take that to work instead

  • Emily

84 Volkswagen camper van! My fist and current vehicle. I get the funniest looks when I hop out.

  • Juan

My first car was a 240sx. 11 years later, I still have a 240sx. But now the engine has been modified slightly and it pushes over 500 hp. Its not pretty though multi colored and what not. It makes for a perfect troll car because nothing except the very fastest exotics or other supped up cars can match that kind of power to weight ratio.

  • ThousandSunny101

i don't have a car (i think I'm missing out on something, apparently)
